"Tip had many friends in the flute world. I knew him as a fellow who was very serious about his work, and, using his training as a musician and engineer, he set about creating an outstanding flute. Tip will be missed, but his legacy will live on." --Jack Moore, 9/20/2005 In the 1960s, when Tip Lamberson (a musician, mechanical engineer and pilot) went to the Powell and Haynes flute factories to test the instruments with the idea of upgrading his current flute to a professional one, he learned that he would have to wait for up to eight-years on a waiting list before he would be able to own one. Disappointed at having to wait that long, he became inspired to make his own flute. The rest is history. His flute making skills were so outstanding, that he quickly became one of the most well-respected flute makers of his day; many flutists agreed that his instruments compared favorably to a Powell or Haynes.Currently, a used Lamberson is a rare find, as owners tend to hold on to them and treasure them. Condition and History of This Flute: This beautiful flute is #88 out of 730 made by Nathaniel "Tip" Lamberson, and was purchased by Wilma Riabov in the late 70s after her first flute was stolen from the family home. She cherished this flute and it was played with love. In her later years, Wilma played violin with the Marquette Symphony Orchestra and violin and flute with the Manistique Community Orchestra. She occasionally played flute for small gatherings and church services until her passing in 2012. It is in beautiful playing condition with excellent pads, has no dings and no major scratches. It is in very good aesthestic condition (there are quite a few fine scratches and a bit of wear on the gold lip, all to be expected for a well-loved flute of its age. Also, because Wilma's prior flute had been stolen, someone roughly engraved identifying markings behind the barrel. None of this effects the playability in any way, and for its age, the flute is in very nice condition overall. It has recently been serviced by my trusted technician, and it is ready to play!
